About the Film Fest:
In the fall of 2003, I began creating a new kind of film festival to showcase action-sport films. I realized that just like my films, there were other film producers that had great films but no place to showcase them. Fronting the entire cost on credit cards, I forged ahead and created the first annual Steamboat Outdoor Film Festival, nearly filling the ballroom of the Steamboat Sheraton with only three weeks of modest promotion. Four ski and snowboard films were showcased and a new festival was born.

With the great response of 2003, I teamed up with the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation to further the festival. Morphing the title into the Steamboat Mountain Film Festival and moving the festival to the Steamboat Grand Ballroom enabled an audience of 600+ which was over the capacity for the room. The festival also enjoyed more luxuries and the addition of competition as the 2004 festival films were judged by members of Warren Miller Entertainment. Winners received prize money and the titles of Best Ski/Snow sport Action film and the overall Best Film were awarded.

By 2005, the festival had grown into a three day weekend which showcased films from around the world on the first two nights and the final night showcasing the Northwest Colorado Outdoor Action Film Contest with the best ski/snowboard action films judged again by the team at Warren Miller. The festival received great reviews and thank you letters poured in from the festival’s audience.

The 2006 festival will built on the progress made in 2005 by including a new component to the film contest. On the first night of the festival, short action-sport teasers were shown. From the original eight, the audience determined the final three, which were shown in full length on Sunday night. This created the opportunity to involve the audience due to their active role in the showings. Additionally, Saturday night featured a collection of top action films from around the world.

For 2007, we have even more in store including a new venue and a television show. Details will be coming July 30th, stay tuned!

Max Mancini and girlfriend Molly Jackson - Involved in Tragic Car Crash

Pro Skier and 7 Year Two Plank Athlete -

max.jpg

-Sunday September 30, 2007, (Fairplay, CO) At approximately 2:50 PM MT, Pro telemark skier Max Mancini was traveling with his girlfriend, Molly Jackson, southbound from the Denver area to their home in Crested Butte on US 285. On their way home, they were involved in a horrific car accident with at least two other vehicles at highway speeds in opposing directions.

According to those close to the family and confirmed by Colorado State Patrol Officers, tragically, Molly did not survive the accident; of which we all deeply regret. Additionally, Mancini was found by first responders unconscious, and was later determined to have a skull fracture and suffered broken ribs.

All friends and family of Max and Molly are deeply hit by the tragedy. All of our most sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the Mancini’s and Jackson’s.

Two Life Flight helicopters were landed directly at the scene as officers closed the highway for 2 hours. In all, three individuals were flown directly to St. Anthony’s central in Denver, and two were taken to area hospitals.

About 1 mile north from an area known as Como (on a notoriously dangerous section of highway through the Fairplay/Southpark Valley) Mancini and Jackson’s BMW came into contact with a Lexus SUV, and collided with a Toyota Tacoma which appeared to hit the right front side of the BMW.

According to the Colorado State Patrol:
“At 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, a black BMW traveling southbound on 285 crossed over into the opposite lane and collided with a northbound Lexus LX300, causing the Lexus to go off the road and roll two times. The BMW began to rotate and collided its right side with a red Toyota Tacoma heading northbound. The BMW rotated clockwise a quarter turn and came to rest on its wheels facing west. The Toyota rotated a quarter turn clockwise, rolled a quarter roll, and came to rest on its left side.

The passenger in the BMW died at the scene. Helicopters flew three people and two people were taken by ambulance to area hospitals with moderate to serious injuries. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.”

-The news of a crash first broke to the crew while in Denver immediately after the accident, a mutual friend returning home as well, reported that it was possibly the worst crash they had ever seen. Unknowing who was involved, they allowed the scene to local emergency responders flocking from virtually every direction, including the sky, to attempt to aid Mancini and Jackson; as well as several others involved. Using state of the art hydraulic rescue tools, firefighter and rescue workers freed the victims from the vehicles and transferred them to EMS officials.

Mancini, appearing in our first DVD movie “The Next Episode” has been a huge supporter of our efforts, and often combined forces along with his telemark film company, Falling Forward Films. Mancini has always been a shining light whenever present, and Jackson was supreme companion for our friend.

Max is recovering in a Denver ICU, and is making progress. Only 2 days after the accident, his physical therapists were able to get him walking around. As he spends much time resting and recovering, family and friends note that all thoughts are very appreciated.

Again we want to send our best to both families and all effected from the accident. More information on this story, as well as Max’s progress, will become available as soon as possible.

Corey Tibljas, owner of Two Plank Productions, Shares Stage with Denver Mayor

Denver, September 25, 2007— Corey Tibljas, a 21 year old from Crested Butte, won the 18-21 year old age category at the 6th Annual Celebration for Young Entrepreneurs. The Celebration is sponsored by the Young Americans Center for Financial Education and was held at the Belmar Center in Lakewood. Corey, whose business is Two Plank Productions—named after the two planks used for skis—is one of four winners in this business competition for Colorado youth.

Each winner in the competition received $1,000 to be used towards his or her business or education. In addition, they receives the honor of being paired with a Presenting Mentor – a prominent Denver businessperson to whom they can look to for business advice and guidance. Corey’s mentor, the honorable John Hickenlooper, Mayor of Denver and entrepreneur, presented his check and engraved award after the audience enjoyed watching a video of Corey meeting and talking business with the Mayor at his office. Corey graciously recognized all the other entrepreneurs in the audience and encouraged them to keep up their hard work.

About Two Plank Productions and Other Winners
Corey founded Two Plank Productions in 1999 and now has a crew of four to film and produce award-winning adventure sports footage, DVD content and films. Two Plank is the only small production company invited to participate in Powder Magazine’s 2007 Movie Awards.

Stories From the Reel Fest

Crested Butte, CO

sp.jpg

The 2007 Crested Butte Reel Fest will feature a new program of action sports short films.
Crested Butte’s 10th annual film festival, which will be held from August 8th through the
12th, is looking to encourage locals of all ages to capture their athletic adventures on film,
and to share their daring feats with their community.

“Our community is so fortunate to have professional film companies like Matchstick
Productions and Two Plank Productions right here in town. Their work, along with the
work of other sports film production companies undoubtedly inspires amateurs
throughout the valley. It’s not hard to spot skiers, snowboarders, rock climbers, and
bikers filming themselves throughout the year. Reel Fest is excited to showcase their
work for the first time,” says Allison Keagle, a member of the Reel Fest Board of
Directors.

While the program may put the spotlight on local amateur filmmakers and athletes, Reel
Fest welcomes submissions from professional film companies, as well as submissions
from filmmakers outside of the Gunnison Valley. The Fest is also exploring additional
related programs, such as workshops to help filmmakers improve the quality of their
work.

Two productions accepted from the Two Plank crew were slated to show down to finish up the summer. The films selected for screening were Two Plank’s acclaimed HDV project “Screenplay” and the award winning short documentary, “The Moment” were among a handful of great other screenings to conclude the festival. Check out “The Moment” and the trailer for “Screenplay” on our

page. “Screenplay” is being featured at the new discounted rate of 14.99 at the TwoPlank Store.

One of the Crested Butte Reel Fest’s Co-Founder’s was then - local filmmaker Robert A. Nowotny. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for the Arts in Crested Butte, Colorado. Robert decided to have a fundraiser screening of seven short films made by filmmakers he knew. It was the middle of the winter of 1997 in the Rocky Mountains and he advertised that anyone wearing shorts would get in for half price. The response to the screening was overwhelming and people had to be turned away!

This year, James and Corey were unable to attend the first three days of the festival due to downhill mountain bike shoots all week in Snowmass, CO. After three nights of no sleep from the eclectic Aspen night life, followed up by 7AM call times, the boyz went straight to the Hill Top pool in Snowmass village, kicking it and debating the ages of fellow guests; before truckin’ ass back over 2 passes to make it back to the home town of Crested Butte just in time to catch the first of the “Sport Shorts” film screening. Several other Two Plank locals were in attendance like Berman, Furimsky, Boulding, and Hannan. The crew was extremely stoked with the attendance and the audience’s response to their films before taking the party to the local hotness, LoBar. Two Plank wants to thank the CB Reel Fest for extending their festival into the abstract category of action sports film. -TP
