About the Film Fest:
In the fall of 2003, I began creating a new kind of film festival to showcase action-sport films. I realized that just like my films, there were other film producers that had great films but no place to showcase them. Fronting the entire cost on credit cards, I forged ahead and created the first annual Steamboat Outdoor Film Festival, nearly filling the ballroom of the Steamboat Sheraton with only three weeks of modest promotion. Four ski and snowboard films were showcased and a new festival was born.

With the great response of 2003, I teamed up with the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation to further the festival. Morphing the title into the Steamboat Mountain Film Festival and moving the festival to the Steamboat Grand Ballroom enabled an audience of 600+ which was over the capacity for the room. The festival also enjoyed more luxuries and the addition of competition as the 2004 festival films were judged by members of Warren Miller Entertainment. Winners received prize money and the titles of Best Ski/Snow sport Action film and the overall Best Film were awarded.

By 2005, the festival had grown into a three day weekend which showcased films from around the world on the first two nights and the final night showcasing the Northwest Colorado Outdoor Action Film Contest with the best ski/snowboard action films judged again by the team at Warren Miller. The festival received great reviews and thank you letters poured in from the festival’s audience.

The 2006 festival will built on the progress made in 2005 by including a new component to the film contest. On the first night of the festival, short action-sport teasers were shown. From the original eight, the audience determined the final three, which were shown in full length on Sunday night. This created the opportunity to involve the audience due to their active role in the showings. Additionally, Saturday night featured a collection of top action films from around the world.

For 2007, we have even more in store including a new venue and a television show. Details will be coming July 30th, stay tuned!
