Live From Snowmass -> Mountain Bike National Finals 07

Snowmass NationalsFor the Third year, JSP has been selected to produce one of the most exciting sports television programs of the year, The 2007 Snowmass Mt. Bike Series Finals. This year, the Two Plank Productions team consisting of Corey Tibljas and James Wilkinson tagged up with the 3 person JSP crew for full coverage of the Pro and Semi Pro Downhill National Series Finals in addition to Pro and Semi Pro 4X. In the mean time before the show’s airing, the edit suite at the Two Plank HD offices in Crested Butte, CO are in full production creating the cuts for the show.

With three consecutive nights out on the streets of a little place called Aspen, a few anonymous members of the team have essentially broken even after the payday. Nonetheless, high quality bike talent, mixed with cocktails, scarce sleep, adrenaline, Go Fast!, and High Def equipment; not to mention the skillz of the crew – assure that this show will fire on all cylinders.

This fast paced half-hour show will feature the thrills, spills, and chills of this annual mountain bike classic. It will be shown on Altitude Entertainment Sports Network in early Fall of 2007, It will also air on Versus and on COMCAST cable this coming Fall.

Show, tell and sell your products or services. The program is guaranteed to run at least 10 times in prime times on weekdays & weekends. Advertisers will reach over 4 million TV homes in six western states on Altitude. COMCAST reaches another 850 thousand homes in Colorado!

Two Plank Dives Heavy into the TV Scene

Crested Butte, CO – Acclaimed ski production company, Two Plank Productions, under the direction of Corey Tibljas, has beenin quest of many new opportunities to say the least. As Two Plank plans to announce the release date of their 2008 ski film release in mid- July 2007, they have been keeping the diversity high; as well as gaining brand exposure through new means.

Throughout the course of the last six months, the crew has been teaming up with some of the most original and best producer - directors in the action sports TV scene. With the crew working on national TV syndicated programs and special event coverage, Tibljas states that “It is a great opportunity for the crew, as it gives them a chance to work in a new realm, and see the industry through a new lens; accordingly, we are all motivated as ever which shows in the editing effort put into our new ski feature”.

As this team of college students pushes forward, they have had the profound opportunity to work with legendry greats like John “Sandy”, President of JSP Broadcast; Brian Lippy of FusionTV (and a former co-worker at Tibljas’ home town TV station and RSN affiliate, CBTV28 with Noah Wight); in addition to several members of the local media at KUSA NBC, KDVR FOX, and The Weather Channel.

Some other notable highlights Tibljas points out, is that as they are working on a two-year production schedule for their upcoming ski film, which allows them to produce a professional caliber film, while clearing the hurdles of full time student schedules. This will also allow Two Plank to aim for the sky, even with the constraints of a limited operational budget for film production.

“The largest benefit of the TV productions we are getting into,” Tibljas adds, “is that we can work on two projects at once, and increase funds for the planned extravagant international travels of the upcoming 2007/2008 winter season we have set up for the riders!” This sets up a great foundation for Two Plank as they are gearing up for the second season of feature production.

The master plan for the company is to continue growing as a business; through both brand extension and new company acquisitions. Two Plank plans to continue to add to its TV production collection, with new associate productions with JSP for the Snowmass Summer Series, Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and final cut on a TV pilot for the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse; on top of the currently airing spots of the 07 US Freeskiing Extremes, 07 Slush Huck Championship, SnowMotion, RSN clips, and High Alpine Events.

As for the film side, Tibljas is planning on releasing a dual disk feature. One being the action packed thriller, and the second a “Behind the Athletes Eyes” documentary film. Tibljas advises fans to keep their eyes peeled for the three-part movie trailer, with the first to be released in late July, accompanied by large magazine placement and Promo-events. More information and entertainment can bee seen on the newly designed twoplnk.com (Complete: July 07). - ©2PP

Two Plank Interviewed By Freeskier for Beating Win

The Following Interview Story is simulcast from freeskier.com can be viewed in its original text at:
http://freeskier.com/freeskier/news.php?news_id=772

he Beating is an amateur film festival held in Silverton, Colorado. Meant to be a core version of “The Meeting” held in Aspen, The Beating brought out some of the best crashes, most hilarious outtakes, and some quality skiing footage. Contestants entered 5 minute short films to be judged by a panel of experts. The grand prize was a trip to Los Angeles to meet with the Studio 411 crew and learn as much as possible about the professional film-making process.
I got a chance to ask Corey Tiblijas a few questions after Two Plank Productions took home a flurry of awards.

FS: How does it feel to not only win Best overall movie, but to have both of Two Plank’s shorts tie for Best overall movie?

CT: It was a great feeling. While sitting in the audience with Jeff after winning two of the sub categories, the tension was off since we weren’t leaving empty handed. The suspense definetely built up as Jen was announcing the winners. When she said there was a tie I never could have imagined that we tied ourselves. Needless to say, that was a clutch win and a great break from years of filmmaking.

FS: Tell us about the Sickbird award. What is it and why did “The Moment” win?

CT: The sick bird award was the icing on the cake as there were a lot of ski shots and stunts showcased in other films at the Beating. This award is handed out to the defining movie or shots that make people get out of their seats and yell. After extensive research from our 22 show movie tour of Screenplay, we have seen what shots of ours work for that criteria. We used simply the best of the best of our HD shots from the past season. From first ever ski BASE locations, to pointing it down a 3 foot wide chute about 200ft long; the shots fired on all cylinders.

FS: You won a trip to Studio 411 in California. What do you hope to learn on this trip?

CT: It will be great to actually get a run through of full scale operation, not to mention the distributor that represented the best of the best. So much learning can come from even the smallest amount of practical experience. We are all really excited to go to LA and sit down with the 411 crew!

FS: What do you think is the most interesting part of the film making process?

CT: We all feel that the most interest aspect is seeing months and months of very hard work from almost 50 people pay off. When all of the pieces of the puzzle come together and you can suck your own interest into your project, it is then when you feel a sense of accomplishment; that fact that you are able to entertain yourself with something that can be old footage with a new edit. The actual job description of this business is the best part, each of us work in every aspect of the business, and we’re on call for everything 24/7. It never stops, and that is the way we like to keep the momentum going.

FS: What is the defining feature of your 2006 release, Screen Play that sets it apart from other ski movies?

CT: Its a movie that features everything. Rather than focusing on one or two, we teamed up with established and upcoming athletes specializing in big mountain, urban, back-country kicker, and park and showcased them in a seamless HDV project. Skiing is a very diverse sport, with many lifestyles, so we wanted to make a movie that just about everyone can watch, and walked away stoked. Plus, it may open eyes to different styles of skiing to new audiences.

FS: Where did you shoot Screen Play? With what athletes?

CT: Crested Butte - Aspen/Snowmass - Vail - Copper - Denver - Boulder - Colorado Springs - San Juans - Wolf Creek - Gunnison - Leadville - Loveland [Colorado] Pemberton - Whistler/Black Comb [BC] - Salt Lake City - Park City - Little Cottonwood [UT] - Okemo - Killington [VT] - Taos [New Mexico] - [Wyoming]

Jonny Scriz Scott, Alex Norton, Laura Ogden, Liam Downey, Jesse Hall, Heath Ordway Steele Spence, Ted Davenport, Jack Hannan, Jon Johnston, Forrest Cole, Brandon Claybaugh, Ben Furimsky, Max Mancini, Andrew Holson, Alex Albers and many others

FS: How did growing up in Crested Butte with the Matchstick crew influence you?

CT: It was a huge influence. I met Steve and Murry when I was 10 I think. After classes in High School they would let me chill in the studio and watch the madness go down. They were and still are super supportive of our progress.

FS: What can we expect to see out of Two Plank Productions in the future?

CT: People should expect to see real skiing in its essence. Skiing is our life and passion, and we plan to show that on every aspect. Even though it seems like the work never stops, we look at this as an opportunity to have fun and entertain people in the process.

Thanks a lot Corey. We look forward to seeing more from Two Plank in the future. Check out both of Two Plank’s winning shorts at freeskier.tv

The Beating Attracts Hundreds to Silverton

Voting for viewers choice at NossaTV.com until December 10th!

December 5, 2006… Over 200 people packed into the Miners Union Theatre (Silverton Mountain’s headquarters) to view movies submitted by die hard amateur filmmakers from all over the globe. 16 five minute films were shown to the standing room only crowd. The event was a fundraiser for a scholarship fund in honor of Andy Calloway, a local youth snowboarder killed in a car accident last summer.

Chris Jerard publisher of Freeskier Magazine, Mike Sharp of NossaTV.com, and photographer Scott Smith judged the movies on 3 criteria creativity, quality, and entertainment value. The big stand outs of the night were Icon 5 Treat from Ibis Films in Japan, Smooth Denali from Matt Hobbs of Aspen, and Silverton’s own Jason Ebelheiser’s Northsiders. In the end, the winners of the Best Overall Film were Two Plank Productions out of Crested Butte with the excellent combination of technically jibing (tricks) and big mountain footage. Two Plank cleans up at The Beating

On Saturday, we attended The Beating—a film festival jam-packed with five-minute clips—in Silverton. Two Plank had two clips entered: one by Jeff and Corey, dubbed “Paranoiattack,” and another by Corey and Austin called “The Moment.” All the films entered showcased the talent out there. In the end, “Paranoiattack” and “The Moment” tied for best overall movie, with “Paranoiattack” winning for best creativity as well.

Now, it’s your job to go vote for the viewer’s choice award on NossaTV.com to pick your favorite film of all that were entered. The winner is decided by you, so your votes are very important to us. A winner will be announced on December 10.

“YuP” hits the big screen

On November 3, Two Plank’s producer, Austin Gibney premiered his snowboard flick, “YuP.”

The film, by Black Hole Productions, sold out the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. Along with “Yup,” they also showed Volcom’s “Escramble” and a short film by Fuse Snowskates.

After the show, everyone was invited back to Austin’s house for the after party. Attendees got schwag from Volcom and plenty of free beer. As usual, a good time was had by all.

Edited by Austin and produced by Kyle Anderson, “YuP” is made up of up-and-coming riders who either live in Crested Butte or who used to live there. The film encompasses all sorts of riding from urban rails, to park jumps, to backcountry booters, to cliffs and backcountry lines. Filming took place at Crested Butte, Copper, the Crested Butte backcountry, Northstar, Salt Lake City and Jackson Hole.

As of right now, blackholeproduction.com is not quite up and running. It should be shortly. Until then, check out myspace.com/blackholesnow.

If you missed the November 3 show, don’t fret. There is another show on November 30 at Western State College, and one more in Crested Butte at the Center for the Arts on December 30. So, mark you calendars.

To purchase a copy of “YuP,” check out coloradoboarder.com or contact Black Hole Productions.

Urban mission in Colorado Springs

Colorado got hammered with snow toward the end of October. To bring an end to a successful month of “Screenplay” premieres and with all this snow, the Two Plank crew took a trip to Colorado Springs to hit some urban rails.

They lined up a quad kink by CU-Springs, but within half an hour, an RA from one of the dorms came out, questioned everyone and then called the cops. Luckily, the cops did not give out tickets. They did, however, think the riders were going to ski down the stairs…

After a quick coffee and snack break, the crew set up a double kink and absolutely slayed it for a while. Unfortunately, one person dislocated his shoulder and had the pleasure of spending the rest of the weekend in the hospital.

All in all, it was an interesting weekend in the Springs. Hopefully, they’ll get the chance to get back to the quad kink.
