The Beating Attracts Hundreds to Silverton

Voting for viewers choice at NossaTV.com until December 10th!

December 5, 2006… Over 200 people packed into the Miners Union Theatre (Silverton Mountain’s headquarters) to view movies submitted by die hard amateur filmmakers from all over the globe. 16 five minute films were shown to the standing room only crowd. The event was a fundraiser for a scholarship fund in honor of Andy Calloway, a local youth snowboarder killed in a car accident last summer.

Chris Jerard publisher of Freeskier Magazine, Mike Sharp of NossaTV.com, and photographer Scott Smith judged the movies on 3 criteria creativity, quality, and entertainment value. The big stand outs of the night were Icon 5 Treat from Ibis Films in Japan, Smooth Denali from Matt Hobbs of Aspen, and Silverton’s own Jason Ebelheiser’s Northsiders. In the end, the winners of the Best Overall Film were Two Plank Productions out of Crested Butte with the excellent combination of technically jibing (tricks) and big mountain footage. The boys from Crested Butte won a tour of Studio 411 in California.

If you missed the Red Bull and Ska beer filled evening, don’t fret you can still see the films and participate in the viewers choice award which will give one lucky filmmaker $500. People can go to www.nossaTV.com and vote for whom they think should take home the cash until December 10, 2006.
